GOLD COAST REGIONAL BOTANIC GARDENS

ROSE GARDEN - Rosser Park (Ashmore Rd Benowa)

This is a very exciting time for the  Gold Coast Rose Society Inc;     We have been authorised to develop a 2 ½ acre Rose Garden and future Trial Garden in the Gold Coast Regional Botanic Gardens in Benowa.

Stage One, which incorporated the planting of the first 360 Roses took place on 2nd July 2005.    W e have achieved purchase of the initial plantings by means of an appeal to the public, business's or Society Groups to “Sponsor a Rose” at $50.00 each.   This cost covers the purchase and maintenance of the rose over a five year period.    If you are interested in Sponsoring a rose for Stage Two, which includes a range of Australian Bred Roses, please contact Shirley Hayward on 5561 7449.

Our theme is “The Southern Cross”, with each star representing a variety of roses etc.   1 Star = Australian Bred, 1 Star = Old Roses, 1 Star = Hybrid Tea, 1 Star = Heritage etc.   Each point of the star will have a path leading to the centre for viewing the roses, as well as being able to walk around each bed.    Each star will be colour and species co-ordinated.   i.e. Floribunda's – each point 1 colour.

We have plans to incorporate beds in the lawns for other purposes.   i.e. a bed of  thornless roses.   All paths will be disabled and wheelchair friendly.     Infrastructure such as arches, lattice, pergola and irrigation will be established by the relevant trades people by invitation.

The Gold Coast Mayor, Mr Ron Clarke will officially open Stage one in October 2005, to coincide with the 75 th Jubilee of the Queensland Rose Society Inc;
